Official Community Plan Review
Planning for our Future
We are embarking on a review of our Official Community Plan (OCP) to help prepare the community for a resilient future. The OCP guides land use planning and sets out policies that touch citizen's lives in some way every day.
We will involve the public as we review existing OCP policies within the context of today’s emerging issues, challenges, and trends. At key times throughout the OCP review process, you'll have the opportunity to share your opinions and ideas on the future of our community.

BIG IDEAS!
22 days agoWhat would make Central Saanich better now and in the future? No idea is too big or silly.
Do you find yourself always passing the same place in Central Saanich and thinking, “It would be so great if that spot was…”? Maybe you want to see more local activities?
Our OCP review is just beginning and we need to hear from you! Help define what we care about as a community and how we want to grow and evolve.
This is the time to share your big ideas.
Try thinking about the opportunities you see for Central Saanich in the following areas:
- Maintaining and nurturing Central Saanich's unique community character
- Agriculture
- Economic development
- Environment and climate action
- Transportation
- Parks and trails
- Infrastructure
- Arts, culture, and heritage
- Growth, housing, and development
- Community Services
Why? These ideas will help us identify themes, values and priorities, which will ensure the OCP conversations to come are meaningful and focused on key topics.
In March we will fully launch the next phase of the OCP review. You will have the opportunity to weigh in on the strengths and weaknesses of the current OCP through a variety of fun and engaging activities.
Rules
- Staff will determine winners for some fantastic gift baskets of local goods
- Contest closes March 31, 2021

MegP8 days agoPartner with a reflective wear company to support active transport safety.
With streetlights and infrastructure expensive and limited for active transportation in the immediate future, Central Saanich could connect with companies or wholesale distributors to provide discounted (or free!) reflective wear for residents to improve safety at night when engaging in walking/biking. CS could partner with North Saanich/Sidney/Saanich to make the initiative more feasible.

Host a community tree planting day and create a natural forest in part of KIP to reclaim the barren wasteland, create a wildlife corridor and add beauty and vitality to that strip. Plant large species of trees in the school grounds and municipal spaces. Turn part of every golf course back to forest.

With the likelihood that bylaws to allow infill housing will be approved, many seniors would be allowed to continue to live independently if there was a program established that could match seniors who will be down sizing with property owners considering construction of in-fill housing.

Options for affordable housing should include tiny home villages. Developers today are building what they call Affordable housing but in reality is not anywhere near affordable for the average person and certainly not for those who might be the Working Poor. Tiny Home Villages offer the possibility for people to gain some equity themselves without having to put other essential needs at risk such as medical or food.

It would be so nice to have the little corner stores around that you could walk to; with things like ice cream, treats etc. As well, it would be nice to have a floating village where you can walk around to little shops. Expanding on the Brentwood Bay ferry area. Finally, the beach at the end of Mount Newton X rd could use some real sand and be a nice little cove
