The cenotaph has arrived and the
installation went extremely well. It was a
great team effort by all involved and we are very happy with the result.
The quality of the granite and engraving is exceptional and befitting this monument.
For the next week or so, there will be paving, tidying and finishing work, as well as installation of the refurbished plaques.
the cenotaph unveiling ceremony takes place at 10:30 a.m. on Remembrance Day, as part of the Central Saanich Remembrance Day ceremony.
Thank you to the installation crew and those on site finishing the work.

Now that summer events in Pioneer Park have concluded, we have broken ground on the new cenotaph in
Pioneer Park! Starting September 7, landscape crews
are excavating the area where the cenotaph will be placed. They will be pouring a
concrete base and then the cenotaph, which is being
prepared in Quebec, will be shipped to site at the end of the month. Landscape crews will resume work and the project will be finished in time for the Central Saanich's Remembrance Day ceremony to be held at the site on November 11, 2018.

Residents and stakeholders offered comments on the design and location in March 2018. There were displays in the lobbies of Municipal Hall and the library (GVPL's Central Saanich branch on Clarke Road) along with an online survey and contact information.
Of the 43 survey responses, 60 per cent were either satisfied or very satisfied by the existing design. Based on feedback, slight modifications were made: District staff have added a double plinth, and instead of a dove on one side, the French message “Soyez en Paix” (Be at Peace) will be in its place.
